Exploring Cultural Diversity in Mellieħa

Culture Venture has launched a new research project exploring cultural diversity in Mellieħa, commissioned by the Mellieħa Local Council. Led by Toni Attard and Prof. Valerie Visanich, the study examines how migration, tourism, and internal mobility are shaping the town’s cultural identity and community life.

Once a small, close-knit locality, Mellieħa has evolved into a dynamic and diverse community, enriched by residents from various cultural and national backgrounds. This project seeks to understand how these changes influence everyday life, social cohesion, and participation in local culture.

Using a mix of demographic profiling and qualitative research, the study will map Mellieħa’s cultural landscape and engage with key stakeholders, including local cultural organisations, community leaders, and residents, through focus groups and interviews.

The findings will culminate in a comprehensive report designed to inform cultural policy and support inclusive community programming. By bringing together voices from across Mellieħa, this research aims to celebrate diversity, strengthen belonging, and contribute to the town’s evolving cultural story.
