Spooky Monkey LIVE in VR
Culture Venture proudly collaborated on the research phase and production of this unique project – its first production in virtual reality. The project was still in its testing phase and had, thus far, seen Michael Quinton and Alex Spiteri Gingell from Spooky Monkey begin testing the VR visuals at audiovisual partners Mad About Video, in anticipation of bringing the digital research project to life.
The band Spooky Monkey, in collaboration with Culture Venture and MAD About Video, had been working on a research project funded by Arts Council Malta to investigate the idea of performing live music in Virtual Reality. A survey was launched to gather participants’ impressions regarding music performance in virtual reality.
Spooky Monkey are a band that always challenged the medium of live performance. They seek to explore the virtual medium of expression because they believed it would allow them a greater degree of creative freedom by breaking away from the traditional format of a live performance.
‘Spooky Monkey Live in VR’ was a project supported by Arts Council Malta through the Digital Research and Development scheme. The outcomes from the research aimed to support the development of other artists and performance events using innovative technology. The audience research component of the project also provided valuable insight into trends among concertgoers, measuring perceptions and engagement with the virtual reality experience both before and after the concert.
